Project Overview

My dad has always had different dietary restrictions, and so during Covid-19 lockdown I began experimenting with many different recipes, especially baked goods, replacing ingredients that contain gluten, refinied sugar, and sometimes dairy. I had a bunch. of different recipes with these replacements such as my dad’s favoirte, apple cake. I wanted to create this simple recipe book that contains my one-bowl recipes so that my dad could recreate them easily, whenever I am not there to make them for him.  It was created using Procreate, and Adobe Illustrator, this project was developed as a final for my Typography course. I had a lot of fun playing around with different colors, typography, and drawing styles, ending up with multiple iterations of this “cook book.”

Original Version

This was the first version I created of the cookbook. I wanted to incorporate a “sketch-like” aesthetic to it. I liked the idea of having my dad in it, eating something on the cover. Originally it was going to be a blue monster because my dad’s favorite color and he is monster like when eating a ton of food. He runs so much, his apetite is never ending.

More

I created additional versions of this cookbook to achieve a more minimalist design that emphasizes clarity and ease of use. Through experimenting with different color palettes, I aimed to enhance the visual experience, bringing a fresh and inviting look to each page while maintaining functionality and appeal. This iterative process allowed me to create a cookbook design that feels both aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly, especially for my dad!
